You’d be hard-pressed to find a better address than 23 Washingtonova. You’re just 50 steps away from the main railway station, the Airport Express station (direct from the airport) and the Metro Line C station. You’ll be on Wenceslas Square before you’ve even had time to open your map, and before you’ve typed „Old Town Square“ into your phone, you’ll be standing right beneath the Old Town Astronomical Clock.
The Story of the House
The Neo-Renaissance house at 23 Washingtonova was built in the second half of the 19th century, during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was designed by a Viennese architect born in Central Bohemia; the first owner came from Raab in Hungary, whilst subsequent owners, originally from Rakovník in Bohemia and Berlin in Germany, had the property confiscated during the occupation because of their Jewish heritage. The house itself is thus steeped in the history of Central Europe.
